American artist [Born 1970, Sagamihara, Japan]
Greetings, my name is David Shannon, but not to be confused with the talented and notable children’s book author & illustrator (no relation). I am an artist who paints in acrylics and I use inspiration from 1920’s Art Deco, Classic Jazz and a graffiti-esque quality to my work. Living in New York City, Brooklyn, and graduating from Pratt Institute with a degree in industrial design, I took the influences and experiences from my time in Brooklyn and infused them into my work. I use a geometrical approach and vivid colors to create a high-impact visual image, which many of my paintings are intended to provoke.
Most recently I have begun to create new works of art based on Soviet Constructivism. I consider them a kind of altered reality based on current events, conspiracies or propaganda. My goal is to bring some humor and perhaps make one think about our world and how easily swayed we all can be by mass hysteria or popular belief.
I currently live Minneapolis, with my wife Jennifer, who has been a great inspiration to me and my art. |
